A VOCATION
A simple love meets with Infinite Love
This is being with God, love in Love. A human heart comes into contact with God, a limited heart comes in contact with the Unlimited Heart. A simple love meets with Infinite Love.
We, in our lives with God, are as a simple creek which runs until it meets the Sea, and pours into it, and blends with its endless waters. We are a drop of water, heated by the fervor of love, which evaporates, and so rises in order to come down into the depths of the Great River. Our life with God is a life of love.
Both monks and nuns can follow the same spiritual vocation—to live the Gospel in purity, obedience, chastity, and poverty. The monastery, therefore, is not defined by masculinity or femininity, but by the nature of the calling itself—to be wholly devoted to God. Saint Basil the Great, in his Longer Rules, taught that the virtues required of monastics apply equally to all who pursue the path—male or female.
