Augustine (4th–5th century)

Augustine draws attention to the idea of building together into God’s temple. In his Expositions on the Psalms, he explains that each believer, like a stone, is shaped, cut, and sometimes painfully chiseled through trials so as to fit properly into the divine structure. Unity, not isolation, is the purpose of being a stone.”
